What To Do When Your Daughter is Abusing Drugs

Posted in Addictions, Sober Living on Jul 09, 2015

Even if you believe that your daughter is just “experimenting”, it is never too soon to act if you think that your daughter is abusing drugs. The worst thing to do is to go into denial and avoid the problem; ultimately, it only leads to a worse and larger substance abuse problem.

While it may seem harmless initially, casual or experimental drug use can easily get out of control, especially the younger that your daughter is. In order to help your daughter avoid a future filled with accidents, legal trouble, and potential serious health issues, the best option is to face the problem head on and start a conversation regarding why you are questioning your daughter’s sobriety.

If your attempt to have an honest conversation is met with opposition, then an intervention may be the next step. An intervention is essentially, a more organized conversation with the presence of loved ones, friends, teachers, medical professionals, and whoever else you feel would help the process go more smoothly. Make sure to set a desired outcome for the intervention; such as to have your daughter agree to enter a drug treatment program.

Not only will a treatment center provide the necessary stability, education, discipline and counseling that your daughter needs in order to successfully go through the recovery process, but it will also provide much needed help that you are not able to give.
