Fake Instagram Account Releases Powerful Message About Noticing Addiction

Posted in Addiction, drug abuse, healthcare on Oct 06, 2016

On August 1, 2016 an Instagram account came to life. The name on the account was Louise Delage, an attractive woman in her mid-20’s, and she began posting multiple photos of herself having fun in various situations – on boats, on a bike, walking through town, at bars with friends, and on the beach.

From early August to October, this account racked up over 100,000 followers and 50,000 likes on Louise Delage’s photos and videos. What is so striking about this? Every single photo and video contained images of Ms. Delage with a drink in her hand.  This past week, Addiction Aide released the truth about that Instagram account with a video titled “Like My Addiction”. It was set up by a Parisian ad agency called BETC, whom Addiction Aide hired to help them with their social experiment on noticing addiction.

Ms. Delage is actually a model, who was acting in each of the 150 posts. Photos include shots of the woman with a beer in her hand on a boat, walking on the beach holding a bottle of wine, sipping on a cocktail in a bar, and holding red wine with her cigarette. The shocking revelations about this experiment is just how many likes and much praise she received, despite the obvious signs of an alcohol addiction. Addiction Aide aimed to see if followers were really aware of what they were liking, pointing out how easy it is to miss an addiction right in front of you.

This powerful campaign opened the eyes of many Instagram users, as they came to realize what exactly it is they are giving online praise to, and all along not noticing addiction. For those who are seeking a safe environment for addiction recovery, contact Awakenings for Women for help.
