Treatment Options for Addicts

Posted in Addiction, Sober Living on May 11, 2014

When it comes to seeking treatment for your alcohol or drug addiction, there are several options available to you. It is important to make sure that the program you choose best fits your needs and provides the professional services you will need to begin a new life.

Partial Hospitalization Program

A PHP occurs after a person has successfully completed a Detox program. The PHP combines medical supervision alongside a structured treatment schedule. Some PHP programs may provide housing for their patients as well.

Outpatient Programs

Outpatient programs allow patients to continue to live at their current residencies while working or attending school. However, the recovering addict must still attend counseling sessions once a week. These may be group or individual sessions, but both provide much needed support and encouragement to continue sober living.

Intensive Outpatient Programs

An IOP provides housing to patients if it is needed. These patients are allowed to work, go to school, and be treated for their addiction. However, medical supervision of these patients is not part of the program.

Detoxification Programs

A detox program provides patients with doctors who can provide the proper care and medications for those detoxing from drugs or alcohol. Patients in these programs will be evaluated on many levels. These include:

  • Emotional
  • Medical
  • Psychosocial

Patients will receive individual treatment plans and will be monitored by medical professionals at the detox center.

While choosing the best treatment plan for your addiction may seem challenging, each program will provide you with support, encouragement and a safe environment to become clean and sober.
