Incorporating Different Approaches for Successful Addiction Treatment
An effective drug treatment program incorporates several different approaches to help clients recover and prevent relapse, even after leaving a treatment center. While each individual aspect of treatment is important, they are most effective when they work together to create a multifaceted program that addresses all parts of an addiction.
Adequate Time
In order for addiction treatment to be successful, a program must provide sufficient time for the addict to obtain help. Studies have shown that patients who have longer programs have greater success at staying clean.
Counseling
Drug abuse treatment often requires the addition of counseling to help determine the root cause of an individual’s addiction. Personal struggles or emotional issues can increase the likelihood of drug or alcohol abuse, and counseling gives patients the opportunity to discuss the core issues at hand.
Medication
Using medication along with the other approaches of substance abuse treatment is a way that patients are able to deal with cravings and withdrawals more easily. Often, mental health problems have lead to drug abuse and prescriptions are required to get control of a patient’s mindset.
Physical Activity
Incorporating physical activity into a treatment program can help patients take charge of their physical well-being. Exercise is an effective tool in combating relapse and is often used as a way to retain focus.
Combining some or all of these approaches can create greater success for addicts in their journey to recovery and their life after treatment.
