How Women Recover From Substance Abuse Addiction

Posted in Addictions on Nov 13, 2014

Scientific research continues to suggest that it is much harder for women to recover from a drug or alcohol addiction than it is for men. This is mainly because women have a more difficult time with putting themselves and their recovery before their family. Often times, they feel as if they are leaving or abandoning their family and feel wrong for putting themselves first. There are many programs and half way houses specifically designed for women to continue to be able to continue to see their families while receiving the help that they need.

The most effective way for women to recover from a substance abuse addiction is by getting the help that they need as soon as possible and committing to their new life as a sober and recovering addict. It is important to remember that your family will stand behind you and will be waiting for you when you are finished with your treatment. It is better to be the best person that you can be for them, instead of continuing to use alcohol or other drugs. Although you may be spending time apart, you will be giving them the best gift that you can give them: a sober, happy, and healthy you.
