The Benefits of Keeping a Journal while in Addiction Recovery

Posted in Addictions on Oct 21, 2014

While attending addiction recovery, you will be taught many daily tactics to help you move forward in your treatment. One tool that is very helpful is keeping a journal throughout your road to recovery. Journaling is very effective because not only do you express your feelings, but you are also able to look back and reflect on how far you have come. Reflection is a very important aspect to addiction recovery because it allows us to remember our thoughts and feelings and it allows us to move forward.

Journaling is also beneficial when you get urges and cravings to use drugs or alcohol. You can express your feelings to use and then take notes on what you did to avoid the relapse. The more sober days you have, the more memories and accomplishments you have to reflect on for the rest of your life.
In the treatment of addiction, you will learn several effective life skills, time management skills, and coping skills to deal with daily life stressors. It is important to find what works best for you and your recovery.
