How to Stage a Drug Intervention

Posted in Addictions on Dec 15, 2014

The holiday blues can cause addicts to binge and possibly overdose, at Awakenings for Women, we are here to help you and your family get through this difficult time. Since the holidays can heighten any negative feelings, it is the best time to show an addict that they are loved and that their health is a concern to you. Perhaps staging a drug intervention is the answer for saving your loved one’s life this holiday season, so that you both can have a fresh start for 2015.

Here are some things that you need to think about if you are planning a drug intervention for a loved one:

1) Who should be included: Think about the family members and friends that are CLOSEST to the addict. You may not want the entire family knowing, you will also want to make sure that you do not include anyone who could pass judgment and make the addict feel worse. Try not to include anyone that you think may be the reason for their addiction, unless they can clear up any miscommunications that may have occurred.

2) Hire a professional: You are going to want an intervention specialist to be present at the intervention. Chances are likely that the intervention will not go as smoothly or be as effective as you think it will be, if there is not some sort of professional mediator present.

Awakenings for Women wishes you and your family the best of luck when planning and staging an intervention for a loved one. If you need information or help, contact our addiction hotline at 1 (412) 822-0065.
