For Myself For a Loved One

Are You Addicted?

Posted in Addictions on Jun 07, 2014

Nobody wants to think of themselves as an addict. Unfortunately, left unchecked over time, denial can start to override our inner voice of reason. While proper diagnosis must come from a medical professional specializing in treating addiction, here are a few key questions to ask yourself to determine if you may be addicted to drugs or alcohol.

1. Is the use of drugs or alcohol a part of your day-to-day routine?

2. Have you ever felt frustrated when your access to drugs or alcohol was hindered?

3. Do you ever drink to the point of “blacking out?”

4. Have you ever had to call out as a result of a hangover, or being too impaired to work?

5. Have you ever spent money that was earmarked for household needs (rent, food, utility bills, etc.) on drugs or alcohol?

6. Have friends or family voiced their concerns about your use of drugs or alcohol?

7. Do you hide your use of drugs or alcohol from others?

8. Have you ever driven a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

If you have answered “yes” to any of the above, it is critical that you contact a medical professional, or a substance abuse treatment center, to discuss your situation in greater detail with someone who can help. Please don’t wait until things get worse—reach out for help today.
