How Will the 2016 Election Affect Addicts?

Posted in Addictions, News, Sober Living on Nov 06, 2016

At Awakenings for Women, a sober living home in Florida, we create a positive lifestyle for those in recovery by helping you regain control of your life and become a contributing member of society. With the 2016 Presidential Election coming up this November, it seems there are a lot of rumors around how each candidate feels on the nation’s biggest issues. We know it is important for current and former addicts to understand how new policies will affect their lives.

Medical Marijuana: Law makers have been steadily pushing for legalizing and decriminalizing medical marijuana use. Polls are indicating that this will pass in multiple states. If you are a woman and have been previously arrested for marijuana drug charges, you can expect the new laws to change the way the judicial system handles the issue – expecting admittance to a marijuana recovery program for women in Boca Raton rather than facing jail time for your addiction.

Abortion:  Our sober living home in Florida knows that this is the most emotional of presidential issues. Hillary believes women should have the right to decide if they need to go through the procedure, and Trump is “pro-life” – with some exceptions. This is a sensitive topic for addicts who don’t want to give birth to babies already exposed to drugs or alcohol.

Gun Control: Gun culture is a big part of American life. But due to recent issues, Hillary feels we need to implement stronger background checks for gun owners, and Trump feels the real problem is the connection between drugs, alcohol, and mental illness that lead to improper gun use and tragedies.
