Guide to Celebrating a Sober Fourth of July

Posted in sober fourth of july, Sober Living on Jun 16, 2016

What’s not to love about the Fourth of July? Between the fireworks, barbecues, and parades, chances are likely that you will have a hard time deciding where to go first.

However, for those who have stayed in a Florida sober living home, it is easy to see why you may feel differently towards Independence Day. Instead of feeling like you are walking in a mine field, use this guide from Awakenings for Women on how to celebrate a sober Fourth of July.

Go to a meeting before. Stop by your Boca Raton, Florida sober living home before you embark on Fourth of July festivities, in order to get advice from those who have celebrated a sober holiday before you. Going to a meeting and getting some solid advice and encouragement will help keep you on your path and give you the extra confidence to know that you can say ‘no’ to any drink that is offered to you.

Bring a friend. Having a friend who is not drinking and supports your recovery will provide you with that extra bit of strength you need. Together, the two of you can lean on each other to make sure you keep it a sober Fourth of July.

Get a non-alcoholic drink. Regardless of where you decide to celebrate this year, get a non-alcoholic drink as soon as you get there. By having a coke, club soda, or cranberry juice in your hand, chances are it will make you feel more comfortable, as well as keep people from asking if you would like something to drink.
