Discovering Your Sober Self this Summer

Posted in Sober Living, Staying sober on Jul 03, 2016

This summer, discover your sober self in its fullest form. Since becoming clean, you’re going to notice that your persona isn’t the same as it was. This is a natural change that most people experience after staying at Awakenings for Women. You have these summer months to become in tune with the finest version of your sober self.

Take advantage of this critical period to work on yourself and grow. Here are some ways that you can do that, courtesy of Awakenings for Women.

• Recall what you used to love and go do it. Before the struggle of being tempted by substances, was there a hobby that you absolutely adored? Well, now’s the time to get in touch with your passions. Participate in an activity that you remember enjoying, whether it is painting, baseball, singing, or stand-up comedy, and go out and give it a go. Before you know it, you will feel more like yourself than ever; you will feel like your sober self.
• Go on an adventure. Explore the grand world we live in; there is so much to see and learn. Once you get a taste for the spontaneity of life, you will crave to continue learning and growing. It will certainly inspire you.
• List your dreams. Ask yourself what your aspirations in life used to be before you lost yourself. Get back in touch with your ambitious side, and you will surely feel driven to achieve remarkable things. You can even keep a dream journal.
• Step out of your comfort zone. Force yourself to meet new people and to visit new places. Once you become practiced at expanding beyond your safety zone, you will never feel limited again.
