Celebrities Who Were Addicts

Posted in Addiction, Celebrity Addiction, Recovery, Sober Living on Jun 09, 2015

There is a stereotypical image of celebrities suffering from substance abuse and not having their life together – i.e. Amy Winehouse after a night on the town. However, there are plenty of starlets that you may not have even realized that they battled an addiction. Check out these celebrities who stayed under the radar when it came to their addiction, while seeking professional help at an addiction recovery center.

  1. Daniel Radcliffe. While filming the sixth Harry Potter movie, the wizard began to rely on whisky to get through his days. According to Radcliffe, “there were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.” Since attending addiction recovery, the actor has not had a drink since 2010.
  2. Kristen Davis. Once having battled an addiction to alcohol, a problem so bad that she admitted to not believing she would make it past 30 years old, she is now sober and has stated that in lieu of alcohol, an addiction to “chocolate and coffee has taken over.”
  3. Oprah Winfrey. In her 20s she dated someone who introduced her to crack cocaine. While she attests to not having touched the drug since the relationship, she admits that she “was more addicted to the boyfriend than I was to the drugs.”
  4. Bob Dylan. In an interview uncovered from 1966, Dylan admits to kicking a heroin habit that no one even knew that he had. In the recording, he can be heard saying “I kicked a heroin habit in the New York City. I got very, very strung out for a while, I mean really, very strung out. And I kicked the habit. I had about a $25-a-day habit and I kicked it.”
