3 Sober Activities to Keep You on the Wagon

For many recovering addicts, figuring out what to do for fun without drugs or alcohol is a challenge. Often, many years were spent using addictive substances in social and even family situations. Outside of treatment, it is important to determine the activities you enjoy doing while sober so that you will stay on the wagon and stick with your sobriety.

Get Outside

Spending too much time cooped up indoors can result in boredom and the return to destructive behavior. Getting outside into nature is a great way to enjoy the world around you while also creating new experiences that have nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. Hiking, biking, walking, fishing, or just sight-seeing allows you to take in the natural environment that surrounds you.

Get Active

Exercise and other physical activities can be helpful in keeping you sober. You may have spent a lot of time when you were using neglecting to care for your body, but now you have a chance to increase your strength and feel good about yourself.

Get Help

Attending regular meetings is a great defense against relapse. Being surrounded by other recovering addicts is a helpful reminder that you are not alone and that you have supporters ready to lift you up when you have a hard day.

When you fill your new life with positive and sober activities, you allow for less room for your addiction to find its way back in.
