12 Steps to Self-Discovery for Women in Recovery

Posted in Addictions on Sep 30, 2014

On your journey to recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, you will find that at Awakenings for Women we dig deeper into your underlying issues and provide you with the effective coping and time management skills necessary in order to live a sober and healthy lifestyle.

One of the most important things we will teach and explore together are the 12 Steps of Self-Discovery. The original 12 step program was created by Alcoholics Anonymous in 1935 and has been used all over the world, in many different ways, and for all types of addiction. It has been proven to be one of the most effective programs for recovery from drug and alcohol addiction ever created.

The 12 step program at Awakenings for Women was created with the female psyche in mind and molded to meet each woman’s specific needs.

The first three steps involve the patient admitting that they have a problem and acknowledging that there is a higher power that can help them.

Steps four, five and six consist of exploration into the real reason and causes for the addiction in the first place.

Steps seven, eight and nine consist of the patient putting their new found self-discovery into action.

In the final three steps, the patient will begin to truly obtain the benefits of their self-discovery, being strong enough to resist relapse and realize the dangers and urges that can cause them to fall back into addiction.

At Awakenings for Women we believe in providing unconditional support for addicted women for as long as they need it. We teach and implement the 12 steps of self-discovery because these steps help lead to a life-long recovery.
