Tips for Staying Sober this Halloween

Posted in Sober Holidays on Oct 20, 2017

Halloween is the official start of the holiday season. Blink your eyes and you’ll be at Thanksgiving, blink again, it’s Christmastime. Halloween and the weekend surrounding it is full of people celebrating in costume at bars, parties and more. Don’t let Halloween trigger a relapse that could influence your whole holiday season. Awakenings for Women, a sober living facility for women, has these tips to help you stay sober this Halloween.

If you are feeling vulnerable, go to a 12 Step meeting. These meetings are available in your area all the time and the community support can be a helpful boost to your morale when staying sober during the Halloween craziness.

Find sober events to attend for Halloween and friends who are supportive of your decision to stay sober to go with you. It’s always better to have a group of people in your corner who understand and support your decision and will participate with you to avoid temptation. If you can’t find any sober events, host your own. You are in control of who you invite, what you have at the party, and what goes on. You can also stay home and give out candy to all the families and children trick or treating in your neighborhood.

Take a Halloween vacation. Avoid the craziness and get out of town for the weekend. Visit family, go camping, or explore a remote destination you’ve always been meaning to check out. When you come back, you can relive the Halloween weekend through your friends’ stories.

Take charge of your Halloween with these tips to staying sober. If you are looking for a safe haven to maintain your sobriety, give Awakenings for Women sober living facility a call today at 1 (412) 822-0065.
