Culinary Superstar Andrew Zimmerns Speaks Out About Addiction

Posted in Celebrity Addiction on May 03, 2017

Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods recently inspired and entertained those in Houston, Texas by sharing his past struggles with addiction.  The event took place at the 34th Annual Spring Luncheon in The Waggoners Foundation Speaker Series. Thousands gathered at the Hilton Americans-Houston, as Keynote speaker Zimmern told the personal story of his drug and alcohol filled past, and provided messages of hope and recovery for his listeners.

Now a culinary superstar, Awakenings Florida sober house for women reports Zimmern was once trapped in a downward spiral of alcohol addiction as he attempted to open and run a dozen restaurants. After hitting rock bottom, living on the streets, and stealing to support his addiction, Zimmern was fortunate enough to receive an intervention from his loved ones. Zimmern transformed his life through professional drug and alcohol treatment, and went on to become the executive chef of New York Café Un Deux Trois, and now the host of his own TV show.

By sharing his own dark past, Zimmerns intent was to carry a message of hope to young people struggling with addiction. He praised local recovery services, and encouraged Houston residents to do all they can to help friends and loved ones struggling with addiction. 25 years into recovery, and Zimmern continues to be a source of positivity and encouragement for those hesitant to receive treatment. “I did not come into recovery doubting it,” Zimmern said. “I came into my current sobriety begging for what those who came before me had. I knew what it was and I wanted it. You cannot think your way into right acting. Recovery isn’t a thinking thing, it’s an action thing.”
