Actress Taryn Manning Talks Sobriety

Actress Taryn Manning, famously known for her role as inmate Pensatucky on the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, recently spoke out about her struggles with addiction, and how she has worked to turn her life around. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Manning revealed that her efforts in sobriety are inspired by her father, who committed suicide due to issues with substance abuse.

Manning explained that she had been struggling with her own substance abuse issues herself, but decided to turn her life around after seeing how addiction affected her father. In her interview, Manning states, “I am truly grateful for what some may call hitting rock bottom […] Some days it sucks and some days it sucks worse. I am not ashamed of this obstacle because I have accepted that it is okay to not be okay.”

The sober living facility for women reports that the actress says she relied on therapy, friends, a sober companion, and other safe outlets to help her through her struggle. She has been very open and honest about the successes and failures within sobriety, and says she wants other people to know that everyone struggles, and that nobody is expected to handle sobriety flawlessly.
