Shocking Celebrity Overdoses in 2016

Posted in Addictions on Jan 19, 2017

2016 was a tough year for Americans battling the growing opioid epidemic. With overdoses spiking nationwide, detox centers, rehabs, and halfway houses, such as Awakenings for Women, have been urging addicts to find the help they need to regain control. Awakening’s sober living facility for women in South Florida reports that even some of the country’s top celebrity icons were unable to find proper treatment in time.

Prince Rogers Nelson, better known as Prince, collapsed in an elevator in his home in April of 2016. After months of speculation around his recent treatment for drug overdose, a medical examiner ruled the celebrity’s death with a fentanyl overdose. Later reports indicated that the singer had pill bottles with fentanyl around his house that were mislabeled as Hydrocodone.

Like pop star Prince, 3 Doors Down cofounder Matt Roberts suffered from a fentanyl overdose that led to his fate in late August of 2016. The 38-year-old guitarist had reportedly suffered from anxiety, leading to a prescription drug addiction. At the time of his death, he was found in a hotel hallway with a fentanyl patch and prescription pills.

WWE celebrity Joanie Laurer, better known as “Chyna”, was found dead at her California beach house in early April. The medical examiner’s autopsy determined the celebrity had a combination of alcohol and prescription drugs in her system, ultimately leading to an overdose. The 45-year-old was in the middle of filming a documentary about her life, which led her to combine oxycodone, oxymorphone, Valium, and sleeping pills that her body could not handle.

Amidst the growing opioid crisis in America, it is critical to find the correct treatment if you or someone you know is suffering from an addiction. Do not wait; make 2017 the year that you overcome your addiction and get integrated into a sober lifestyle. Call the sober living facility for women at Awakenings for Women today.
